A piece of fashion retail history. This wee beaded evening bag or purse was sold by John Wanamaker in New York and its original price was $1.95. It was sold in January 25th or 27th. One of those numbers may be the year. Both are stamped on the sales receipt.
The bag is small (4.5 x 5.75 inches), encrusted with white beads front and back sewn on in little swirls that provide the only pattern, and has a little strap that slips over the hand for carrying or dancing.
The inside is lined in ivory faille and has a little mirror pocket in one wall. It closes with a little antique snap that still works fine.
The purse comes with the original box, tissue and sales slip. The box is marked John Wanamaker New York Philadelphia Paris London. Box and other additions are in very good condition.
Condition of the bag is near excellent. It is getting close to 100 years old and has been carried but it is clean and will be wonderful for a vintage wedding or other period function.
