This is a great bag for spring and summer. Woven horsehair (from the tail or mane) gives the impression of expensive straw bags. Horsetail hair is extremely long lasting which is why our frugal ancestors used it as upholstery fabric. Some furniture makers still use it for high end pieces.
This particular bag is a clutch, not too elegant to carry with a business suit and not too casual for semi-formal occasions. The bag has a very simple fold over flap closure with a magnetic snap. The inside back wall has a lengthwise zippered pocket.
The body of the bag is horse hair and the gusset, lining and decorative strip on the flap are black leather. The flap has a gold tone metal accent.
Width: 9.5 inches
Depth: 5.75 inches
Condition is very good but this bag has been used. It is clean and has no wear visible other than the teensiest bit of fading on the edges of the leather. The snap has a UK patent and I think the workmanship is compatible with English attention to detail. This was a very fine bag and is quite old and probably dates from the 1960s.
